AUTOTRADER.COM SPEEDWAY IN LIGHTS 5K RUN/WALK SET FOR NOV. 13
Driving through AutoTrader.com Speedway In Lights at Bristol Motor Speedway is generally the preferred method of transportation. But Nov. 13, walking or running is just fine too.
Just five days before Nov. 18 opening night of one of the largest holiday light shows in America, the Speedway In Lights 5k Run/Walk Presented by Fleet Feet takes place. Participants will have an opportunity to see the hundreds of displays and millions of lights in a completely different way, as they run or walk along a 3.1-mile route and take the checkered flag at the start/finish line of the famed half-mile oval.
The SIL 5k begins at 6:30 that evening and is a perfect way to get into the spirit of the season. Participants may preview the 15th season of AutoTrader.com Speedway In Lights., while also supporting Speedway Children’s Charities as all funds raised through the event will benefit the Bristol Chapter of the non-profit organization.
Adults wishing to enter the 5k Run/Walk can do so for $20 in advance of the event or $25 the day of the race. Children 12 and under may enter for $7. Children aged three and under can participate at no cost and will not be timed. Participants may register online at www. bristol.speedwaycharities.org/events/speedway_in_lights_5k_run_walk.
All adult participants receive a long-sleeve event t-shirt. All participants 12 and under receive a Bristol Motor Speedway sling bag. Those who register in advance may pick up their race packages Nov. 12 from 11-5pm at Fleet Feet Sports; and Nov. 13 from 3-6pm at BMS tents near the top of the hill in the parking lot.
The top three finishers among both male and female runners receive event medallions in the following categories: Top Overall, Top Masters, Top Grand Masters, as well as the top three in the following age groups: under 10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 and over.
In addition, the top three overall finishers in both the male and female categories earn additional prizes. The overall male and female winners receive two suite seats to the March and August race weekends in 2012 and a free pass to Speedway In Lights. Second place is two grandstand tickets to both the Food City 500 in March and the IRWIN Tools Night Race, and the third-place runners receive two tickets to the Food City 500 event in March.
The Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, a non-profit organizations, has raised in excess of $6.5 million over the past 14 years for children’s agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Pre-registration will end Sunday, Nov. 6. Registration on event day will begin at 4 p.m.
