For a good part of the year, Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway are known for the unparallel excitement and speed provided by NASCAR and NHRA events at the facilities. When fall begins to turn to winter, however, Thunder Valley takes on an entirely different look and feel.

For the 13th consecutive season, the Autotrader.com Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA extravaganza will transform both venues into one of the country's largest holiday celebrations, beginning Nov. 13.

With nearly 2 million lights and more than 200 light displays, Speedway In Lights has become a much anticipated holiday tradition for its tens of thousands of yearly visitors.

The show features a spectacular 4.5-mile drive-through route which allows spectators to drive around the World's Fastest Half-Mile as well as take a trip through Thunder Valley at Bristol Dragway.

Along the route, visitors will see some fantastic animated displays, including The Twelve Days of Christmas. The display features a dozen scenes, each 10 feet tall and nearly 15 feet wide, making up one of the largest displays at Speedway In Lights at approximately 180 feet long.

The largest display in the show features several animated displays from Gatlinburg leading up to Sea of Illumination presented by Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies display. The magnificent setup, which is underneath the grandstand area on the frontstretch side of the Speedway, features sharks, fish and a variety of other sea creatures and stretches nearly 750 feet.

Other Speedway In Lights favorites include the animated snowman attraction, which features flying snowballs that ultimately build a huge snowman, as well as Dinosaur Village, with its erupting volcano and six dinosaurs. Other popular displays include the cannon shot, the poinsettia wreath and candelabra. As always, motorsports-flavored displays will occupy spots throughout the drive.

As always, Speedway In Lights will features crafts in the Subway Christmas Village, where children can pose for photos with Santa, roast marshmallows and enjoy hot chocolate. A variety of rides also will be available for children.

Proceeds from Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA, benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to distributing funds to qualified children's charities. Funds from the foundation directly aid children in the Tri-Cities area. To date, Speedway Children's Charities has raised in excess of $4.5 million for area agencies.

Tickets for Speedway In Lights, open nightly 6-10 p.m., Nov. 13-Jan. 2, are available at the BMS gate. Ticket prices for cars are $10 Sunday through Thursday, and $12 Friday and Saturday. Activity van tickets are $15 each night and bus tickets are $65 each night.
