With less than a week to go, Johnson Controls Ice Rink records largest ever one-night number of skaters
This past Saturday night, a record 1,280 skaters took to the ice at the Johnson Controls Ice Rink at Bristol Motor Speedway, shattering the previous one-night attendance mark by more than 300.
With just a week to go before the close of the eighth season of the Johnson Controls Ice Rink, attendance has already surpassed last year's numbers.
"We've just had an outstanding year at both the Johnson Controls Ice Rink and Autotrader.com Speedway In Lights," said BMS president Jeff Byrd. "The ice rink has continued to grow every year and the folks in this area just love it. They love having an ice rink in the area and they truly enjoy having this opportunity.
"We're really happy that we're able to provide this kind of activity and that the people in the region support it so well."
A portion of the proceeds from the Johnson Controls Ice Rink benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.
The Johnson Controls Ice Rink is open Tuesday through Sunday this week. Tuesday through Thursday hours are 4 p.m.-9 p.m., Friday hours are 4 p.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday the rink is open 2 p.m.-10 p.m. The cost to skate is $5, plus an additional $2 for skate rental.
