Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA, the region's most spectacular holiday light show, will kick off its 11th season when it opens on Friday, Nov. 16 featuring even more lights at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Holiday light enthusiasts visiting Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway will again take to the track, circling the concrete oval as part of their festive drive and also may visit Christmas Village, which returns to its popular infield location. In addition to spicing up the region's holiday season, proceeds from the event will benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, helping to brighten the lives of thousands of children.

The newest addition to Speedway In Lights will be 16,800 square feet of LED net lighting that will encircle the World's Fastest Half-Mile wheel fence. This spectacular attraction also will be synchronized to holiday music.

The always popular Ice Rink at Bristol Motor Speedway also returns for the holidays and again will be located in the BMS front parking lot adjacent to Volunteer Parkway (Hwy. 11E). The 60' x 120' ice rink will be open to Speedway In Lights visitors during evening hours for an additional charge.

Returning Speedway In Lights favorites include the largest display in the entire show, the Sea of Illumination presented by Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. The magnificent display, which will be underneath the grandstand area on the frontstretch side of the Speedway, features sharks, fish and a variety of other sea creatures and will stretch nearly 750 feet.

Other favorites include the animated snowman attraction, which features flying snowballs that build a huge snowman upon impact with the ground, Dinosaur Village, with its erupting volcano and six dinosaurs, the cannon shot and the poinsettia wreath and candelabra. As always, motorsports-flavored displays will occupy spots throughout the drive. More than 1.5 million lights and 200-plus displays make up this year's Speedway In Lights, Powered by TVA.

Once again the light extravaganza features crafts in Christmas Village, where children can pose for photos with Santa, roast marshmallows and enjoy hot chocolate.

Proceeds from Speedway In Lights, Powered by TVA, benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to distributing funds to qualified children's charities. Funds from the foundation directly aid children in the Tri-Cities area. To date, Speedway Children's Charities has raised more than $3 million for area agencies over the past 10 years.
