August race week in Bristol proved to be a tremendous time for Speedway Children's Charities as the Bristol chapter raised $134,465.74 from six separate events. The biggest fundraiser for Speedway Children's Charities was the Ride of a Lifetime Online Auction. A total of 15 drivers were auctioned off with the winning bidders earning the right to ride around Bristol Motor Speedway during the pre-race introductory lap for the Sharpie 500. A total of $33,955.74 was raised from the event, which also takes place in the spring. Other big fundraisers included the Richard Petty Ride Along, which netted $31,080 and the 8th annual Speedway Children's Charities Golf Tournament, which kicked off race week and raised $27,959. Funds were also collected from Jumbotron messages, grandstand banner sales and an on-track Fun Walk. The $134,465.74 adds to the total of more than $3 million raised by the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children in the nine years of the chapter's existence. All proceeds from Speedway Children's Charities events benefit needy children's agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
