BRISTOL, Tenn. (Monday, Aug. 14, 2006) - One of the most popular Speedway Children's Charities events during the August race week is the Fun Walk which gives participants the opportunity to walk around the World's Fastest Half-Mile. On Saturday, Aug. 26, prior to the start of NASCAR's most popular Nextel Cup race, participants will get a chance to take a closer look at the concrete oval, while also helping to make a difference in children's lives in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The Fun Walk, which drew over 1,000 participants a year ago, will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Participants are encouraged to sign up in advance for the Fun Walk and may do so at Signing up on-line in advance is $25. Sign-up also will take place on Friday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and the cost will be $30. Children 16 and under may take part in the walk for free if accompanied by a parent. Registration will take place in the display area of the facility, which is in the parking area between the Speedway and Bristol Dragway. Everyone participating in the Fun Walk will assemble at the Speedway's pit gate in turn three at ten in preparation for the start of the event. All proceeds from the Fun Walk benefit Speedway Children's Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to raising and distributing funds to qualified children's charities.
